Essia Boularès Sentenced for Causing 10 Deaths, Numerous Injuries
Paris, France - A French court has convicted Essia Boularès for intentionally setting fire to an apartment building in the 16th arrondissement of Paris in 2019, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to dozens more.
The fire broke out in the early morning hours of February 5, 2019, at a building on Rue Erlanger. Boularès, who lived in the building, was identified as the suspect and taken into custody shortly after.
The investigation determined that Boularès had deliberately started the fire, which quickly spread throughout the building, trapping residents inside. Ten people lost their lives in the blaze, including five children.
Boularès was found guilty of murder and arson by the Cour d'assises de Paris, a criminal court with jurisdiction over serious crimes. The court sentenced Boularès to life imprisonment with a minimum of 22 years to be served before parole eligibility.
The verdict brings closure to the families of the victims, who have been seeking justice for the senseless loss of their loved ones.
